A one-person outfit that only does dryer vents
Berkshire County Dryer Vent Cleaning was started in 2026 by Sam Taylor, working out of Pittsfield. We are not a duct-cleaning company that also does dryers, and we are not a franchise working a call list. Dryer vents are the whole job.
Why we only do dryer vents
Because doing one thing every day is how you get quick at spotting what is actually wrong. Most vents we open are not simply dirty — they have a run that is too long for the appliance, a flexible hose where rigid pipe belongs, a screened cap that should never have been fitted, or a bird that got in through a broken flap two springs ago. A generalist cleans the duct and leaves. Knowing which of those you are looking at is the difference between a vent that stays clear for a year and one that is blocked again by autumn.
It is also why our pricing is published. There is no reason you should have to ring round for quotes to find out what a standard clean costs. The prices on the services page are the prices, and anything unusual is quoted before the work starts, not after.
Working in the Berkshires specifically
The housing stock here creates its own patterns. Most of it is old enough that the laundry ended up in a basement, so the duct has a long vertical lift before it turns for an outside wall — and a vertical run in a cold house is where warm, wet exhaust condenses and lint stops being fluff. The heating season runs six months and more, so the dryer is working the whole time. In the mill towns the same basement often serves two or three units at once. And in the south of the county a good share of houses stand empty for part of the year, which is exactly when a bird finds the hood.
We work residential homes, commercial properties, and condo associations — for associations we schedule buildings together and invoice per building rather than making a manager chase a document per unit.
What actually happens in that hour
Most single-family homes take about an hour. Here is the whole of it, in order.
We start at the dryer
The dryer is pulled out and disconnected. Before anything else we look at how the duct is joined to the appliance, because a crushed elbow or a foil hose behind the machine is often the whole problem.
The run gets brushed and vacuumed
A rotating brush is fed through the full length of the duct while a vacuum holds negative pressure at the open end. That is what keeps the lint out of your laundry room instead of blowing it around.
The exterior hood is cleared
Most blockages we find are at the termination, not in the middle of the run. The hood comes off, the flap is cleared and checked, and anything nesting behind it comes out.
We reconnect and confirm it draws
The dryer goes back, the duct is reconnected properly, and we run it to confirm the vent is actually moving air before we leave. On a Premium Clean that is a measured reading, not a hand held up to the hood.
You see what came out
We show you the lint. It is the only honest way to demonstrate the job was worth doing, and it tells you how overdue the vent was.
The standards we hold to
Rigid metal, not foil
Where duct needs replacing it is replaced with rigid metal. Flexible foil hose collapses, sags, and catches lint at every ridge. It has no business inside a wall or a crawlspace.
No screens at the termination
IMC 504 does not permit a screen or cage on a dryer vent outlet, because lint bridges the mesh and closes it off. If we find one we replace the hood with a properly flapped termination.
The price does not move
What we quote is what you pay. If we open a vent and find something genuinely different from what you described on the phone, we stop and tell you before doing anything about it.
Where we work
The whole county, from Williamstown down to Sheffield. We are based in Pittsfield, so Central Berkshire calls usually get the earliest slot.
